The King's Road ran between Nayavu Village and the teachers' compound. The teachers' compound was on a hill behind the roadworks center. It was far enough back so that if I went to the village and got "matini" from Yagona and then tried to walk up the hill at night, I could really stumble my way through. There were no lights of anykind. If I forgot my flashlight, then the excitement could be real in that I couldn't see anything - pitch black.
